Initially, the El Camino was optioned and sold as a utilitarian vehicle, capable of working while being more forgiving on the road. By the time the 3rd Generation El Camino rolled around, GMC got involved with their version named the Sprint. The timing was good as every Chevelle engine was available in the El Camino and Sprint, including the 454 cubic inch LS5.
