Thanks to its popularity, the 4-4-2 was now its own standalone model as opposed to a trim level for the Cutlass. Initially offered with a 400 cubic inch engine claiming 350 horsepower, GM took the gloves off for 1970, allowing Oldsmobile to stuff in its 455 cubic inch big block between the A-body's frame rails.
