Parents purchased this truck new in 1970

By: Eric 12/17/2022

My parents purchased this truck in 1970. When purchased this truck was a 3/4 ton, long bed, fleetside Camper Special. At the time we lived in southern California. Eventually they got a 10 foot Lance camper. The camper was permanently mounted to the bed using six bolts. The camper remained on the truck until the late 80s when it developed several leaks causing extensive wood rot in the bed area above the cab. My Dad continued to drive his GMC until his death in 1993.

Late in 1993 I retired from the Air Force an we moved to Georgia. I used the GMC as my daily driver to and from work until 1999 when I parked the GMC in our basement to start a full restoration. Well things went good for a few years into the restoration then life got in the way and it sat untouched for years. In 2018 we decided to sell our house in Georgia and move to Arizonia. I had about six months to finished the restoration. Ten days before we move out of the house, I finally finished the GMC. We shipped the GMC to Arizonia where I have been using GMC since then.

What this truck looked like when my parents used it to travel around the western United States.
