1978-1987 Chevrolet El Camino - LS Swap

1978 brought big changes to Chevy's El Camino. Previously built on the A-Body platform, the El Camino downsized and now rested on G-Body architecture. While it wasn't exactly the performer it was in stock form in the muscle car era, the G-Body platform is able to easily accommodate a plethora of upgrades and engine swaps, including the potent Gen III/IV LS.

Step 1: Engine and Transmission Mounts

  • Get that GM LS Engine Mounted in the 1978-1988 GM G-Body
  • Transmission Options: TH400, 200R4, 4L60E, 4L65E, 4L70E, 4L75E, 4L80E, 4L85E, T56, and T56 Magnum
  • Choose The Crossmember Adapter to Match Your Desired Transmission (T56 & T56 Magnum do not need an Adapter)
  • Vehicles That Didn't Come from the Factory w/ the 200R4 Transmisison Need Adapter 12647HKR
  • Compatible with Hooker LS Swap headers, manifolds, and exhaust systems

Step 2: Oil Pans

  • Factory oil pans don't fit or they hang too low on engine swaps
  • Engine swap oil pans provide maximum clearance to the chassis and ground
  • OE (Original Equipment) style fitment for durability, strength, and proper sealing
  • Choose from natural aluminum casting, carbon black ceramic finish, or fabricated sheetmetal depending on the application
  • Complete kit with sump baffle, OE style pickup, drain plug, oil filter stud, and oil passage cover

Step 3: Headers and Exhaust

  • Swap Headers Work Together with the Motor Mounts & Crossmembers for an Easy Engine Swap
  • Choose from 304 Stainless Steel, Mild Steel, or Cast Iron Headers or Exhaust Manifolds
  • Choose from Various Primary Tube Diameters, and Collector Sizes
  • Cat-Back Exhaust Systems available in 2.5 in. and 3 in. diameters
  • Adapters available to connect to longtube headers or exhaust manifolds

Step 4: EFI Fuel Tanks

Step 5: Radiators

  • 100% TIG welded (brazed) seams
  • Billet Aluminum Filler Neck and OEM style Brass Petcock
