The Tempest received a redesign in 1964 atop GM's new A-Body platform with the LeMans being an upgraded trim level for it. The Tempest LeMans could be equipped with Pontiac's 326 cubic inch V8. This pairing proved so popular that Pontiac would double down on the premise with the introduction of the GTO.
